Imagine being one of the soldiers landing on the beaches of France on June 6, 1944. As they landed and realized that the Germans were in wait for them, many must have known that they were part of a suicide mission.
What would possess a man to give up his life for his country, rather than looking out for his own self-interest? For many, their selflessness likely came from their belief in an eternal life.
Jesus said in John 12:25, “Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
Few of us will be asked to sacrifice our life, but for those soldiers who have given their life for our freedom, I am very grateful.
