In his book, “King’s Cross,” Tim Keller describes the rich young ruler asking Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life (Mark 10:17). Keller notes that the man has accomplished much in his life but recognizes that something is still lacking.
It’s the same today. We can use our work to pursue all kinds of earthly rewards – money, status, esteem. But our work will be lacking unless we build on God’s foundation.
The writer of Hebrews wrote: “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” (Hebrews 12:1)
