Dan, an acquaintance of mine, loved giving away large sums of money, as long as he received credit for his generosity. Unfortunately, Dan acquired much of his wealth from deceptive business practices.
In order to increase his profitability, and ultimately his generosity, Dan covered up the shoddy workmanship of his products with attractive packaging. Many of his customers suffered significant losses later. Over time, Dan’s company reputation suffered, but he continued to proudly proclaim his generosity.
Maybe Dan would have done it differently if he imagined Jesus using his product.
Colossians 3:23 teaches, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
God desires you to be generous, but not at the expense of the quality you provide your customer.
