If you’ve ever started a new business and fought for survival, those first few years, you know how hard it can be. Imagine if you had to do it in an oppressive culture where you are considered less a person than those around you.

Many of our past black leaders have accomplished remarkable achievements and they succeeded in an environment that was oppressive. During Black History Month, I wanted to highlight the courage and perseverance of a few of our past significant black leaders.

Romans 5 teaches, “We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

When your work life seems hard, remember there are those who have persevered before you through some very difficult circumstances with a good result.
