When you host a business event or conference, you can decide who will occupy the best seats. Many will reward their best paying customers with the best seats.
That may be appropriate if they pay extra, but if not, the dilemma for followers of Jesus comes when we try to apply the wisdom of James.
James 2:3 says, “If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”
All customers are made in the image of God. James encouraged us to show all customers the honor they deserve, even the poor ones.
