The New York news conference to announce the merger of two companies was a big event, designed to garner news coverage from major financial media. The mood was celebratory, as executives boasted about a bright future for the merging companies and their expectations to generate customer benefits and shareholder value.
Many months later, after regulators denied the transaction, the mood was much less celebratory. The companies had to pick up their pieces, unravel their integration plans, and find new paths forward.
Proverbs 27:1 says: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
God invites us to work to serve others and build society. But our plans will succeed only when they align with His. We can never presume to know the future.
