A friend recently asked for feedback about her public speaking. I gently shared that she was very well prepared, but she became dependent upon her notes. My recommendation was to set aside her notes and trust God and her preparation.
Ironically, as I began to prepare for some interviews, I realized I was just like my friend. I spend a lot of time preparing, then get tied to my notes, rather than trusting God to use my preparation.
Psalm 20:7 says, "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."
If you're one who likes to be well-prepared, trust God to lead you and to use your preparation, so that you can engage with your audience rather than your notes.
