The meaning of Christmas has been highjacked before. According to Wikipedia, in the 17th century the Puritans banned the celebration of Christmas, because it became known for drunkenness and other mischief.
Although Christmas was restored in 1660 as a Christian holiday, it still was in disrepute and not a prominent celebration until the 19th century thanks to Charles Dickens and other writers.
The angel told Mary in Luke 1, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
As you and your family celebrate Christmas this year, I pray that you pause to ponder the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
