Globally, 83% of the world’s population claims that religion is important to them. But of the 38 wealthiest nations that belong to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, including the United States, only 36% view religion as important.
According to a recent Gallup poll, in 2015, 66% of the U.S. population said religion was important to their life; but now the importance of religion has plummeted to 49%. Unfortunately, we’re headed to the lows of the OECD nations.
The headline to me is that poorer nations usually have a stronger faith than rich nations.
Proverbs 11:7 warns, “When the wicked person dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes.”
Wealth can be a snare that draws our dependence away from God but leaves us hopeless.
