In a Wall Street Journal article entitled, “The Ethical Challenges Facing Entrepreneurs” Professor Kirk Hanson emphasizes that ethics can especially be tested while working towards going public or selling a business. After working months on a deal it can be tempting to hide any last minute adverse surprises from investors, and/or to look for illegal ways to pad your bottom line.
If money is your idol these temptations can be hard to overcome.
1 Corinthians 10 says, “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.”
If you’re in the midst of a “big deal” check your motives frequently.
