Every year, Thanksgiving kicks off a series of days designed to primarily maximize retail sales. We have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and then, to help nonprofits, there is Giving Tuesday.
What started out on Thanksgiving as a day of gratitude, has become, “buy, buy, buy,” throughout the following week. Israel also had a harvest time in which God desired their gratitude, but it looked significantly different.
Deuteronomy 16:10 addresses how to celebrate a harvest, “You shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God with a voluntary offering of your hand in a proportional amount, which you shall give just as the Lord your God blesses you.”
In God’s celebration, giving came before feasting and spending! Consider making a gift to God’s work today.
