A recent Harvard Business Review article discussed the culture of busyness that permeates the workforce. They had a few ideas for employers, to help slow down the busyness for employees.
One idea was to reward output rather than only activity. When Safelight switched their auto glass installers pay from hourly to pay based on the number of windshields installed, their worker productivity increased 44%.
In Matthew 25:21, Jesus said to the steward who doubled the master’s money, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”
Paying for output can be taken to an extreme, but finding ways to insert performance-based pay may help employees become less focused on busyness and more focused on productive activities.
