Matthew Gibson and Jeffrey Shrader authored a fascinating report titled, “Time Use and Productivity” that revealed the power of sleep. The summary of their research concluded that adding one hour of sleep a night to the sleep deprived can increase an individual’s earnings 16%.
If we lack sleep, we tend to be less productive and make more mistakes. This study reminds me that God designed our bodies to need proper rest for maximum effectiveness.
Psalm 127:2 teaches, “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.”
Many Proverbs warn of the perils of loving sleep too much, but to be highly productive we need to remember God has designed us to have the right amount of sleep.
