In Joshua 7, the Israelites have been warned not to keep any plunder from their battles. However, after the battle of Jericho, Achan coveted and hid some plunder.
Achan’s individual sin resulted in Israel being defeated in their next battle, costing dozens of lives. God blamed, and allowed, the entire nation of Israel to suffer the consequences of Achan’s sin.
Although Achan was the only one who took plunder, God blamed all Israel.
In Joshua 7:11, God says, “Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.”
Our individual sin not only impacts us, sin also impacts our entire community and workplace.
