The Senate has periodically discussed changing the workweek from 40 hours a week to 32 hours. In this series, we’re exploring biblical considerations on this issue.
Many of the attempts to shrink our work week seem to send the message that work is bad and should be limited when possible. God designed work to accomplish His purposes. By co-laboring with Him, work also provides meaning and purpose for us.
From the very beginning God modeled His design for work and found it very good. In Genesis 1:31 we read, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”
God worked six days and enjoyed the result: maybe that’s not so bad for us as well.
