Listen to the latest 60 second episode of Integrity Moments with Rick Boxx
Many years ago, two businessmen considered buying a bank. They had discussions with me about becoming the CEO of that bank.
Unbeknownst to me, they asked a former boss of mine his opinion on my ability to run the bank. It was reported to me that he told them, “Rick certainly has the skills and background for that job, but I think he’s too nice. I don’t think he’s ruthless enough to be successful.” They decided against me.
I’ve occasionally pondered his belief that nice guys finish last until reading Proverbs.
Proverbs 11 teaches, “A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth. Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.”
A ruthless person may acquire wealth, but eventually it also brings ruin.
