A new report called “Meaning and Purpose at Work” was highlighted in a recent Harvard Business Review article. These researchers quantified the importance of meaningful work not only to employees, but also to employers.
Employees with meaningful work take two fewer days off per year and work one additional hour per week. In addition, job satisfaction and productivity increases result in an additional $9,078 company benefit per worker, per year.
Finally, employees who find purpose in their work have job tenures 7.4 months longer than employees who find work lacking in meaning.
