In 1958, Patricia Haroski was working as a secretary for her father’s State Farm agency. She wanted to honor her father on his birthday, October 16th.

Furthermore, she decided to honor all bosses as well. According to Wikipedia, she registered a holiday with the US Chamber of Commerce called Boss’s Day.

The holiday hasn’t been widely accepted, however, partly due to the complaints of some that object to pressuring subordinates to give gifts to those in authority.

1 Timothy 6:1 says, “All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.”

Whether or not you feel inclined to acknowledge Boss’s Day, as followers of Jesus, we’re to treat our bosses with respect year-round.
