If you’ve been in a coffee shop recently, you’ve likely been prompted to choose a tip amount even before receiving any coffee. It can become easy to tip out of guilt when the interested party stands over you.
Guilt can be a form of bondage, causing a person to do something begrudgingly, rather than out of a grateful spirit. God wants us to walk in freedom rather than doing things out of bondage or guilt.
Galatians 5:1 teaches, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
The next time you’re asked for a tip, respond out of freedom rather than guilt. If the Spirit leads you to be generous, be generous.
