One of the foundational tools in Lean Manufacturing is the 5S system. Each of the 5S’s represents a step towards the most efficient utilization of space.
As with every new process, the easy part is putting it in place. The hard part is getting the changes to stick.
SUSTAIN, the fifth of the 5S’s, teaches a methodology to ensure the OLD process doesn’t creep back in because of discomfort with the NEW.
SUSTAIN acts as a support system keeping process improvements in motion and active.
Psalm 54:4 says, “The Lord is my helper, the Lord is the sustainer of my life.”
God SUSTAINS us in the same way. He puts us through process improvement and helps us stay the course. Let’s thank God for His sustaining work in our lives!
