In a Harvard Business Review article titled, “How the Busiest People Find Joy,” the authors discovered that a factor in maximizing our joy is to diversify your activities. Finding areas of passion is important, but research also reveals that there is a risk in having one singular focus.
Investing our time in only one passion can create a diminishing return on that time. The one passion eventually becomes less enjoyable. Diversifying your activities can be more fruitful.
Ecclesiastes 11:2 says, “Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.”
Although the principle of diversification found in this verse is often used for investing, it also is helpful for realizing the value in diversifying your activities.
