George was the owner of a machine tooling business who years ago hired me to develop a financial plan for his business. As I led his team through the planning process I asked George, “Why do you think God has placed you in this business?”
George’s answer surprised me when he said, “I hire unskilled laborers, train them in this industry, and encourage them to start their own businesses.”
George was training future competitors, because he believed his purpose was to help people succeed in their vocation!
James 2:8 teaches, “If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.”
Although it wouldn’t make sense to many, George is doing well by loving his neighbor and his employees.
