Politics has always been a risky topic for the workplace, but this last year it feels the level of risk has increased dramatically. There have even been reports of employers threatening to fire those who voted for a candidate with whom the employer didn’t agree.

When the political feelings intensify, it can spill over into creating a harmful and volatile culture. As followers of Jesus we can help diffuse the strong feelings by remembering that we are citizens of heaven first and citizens of this country second.

Philippians 1:27 teaches, “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.” (NLT)

Loving those around you regardless of their political persuasion is unconventional but critical in building a healthy culture.
