In a recent Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills football game, the Chiefs were losing when they executed a spectacular play for what appeared to be the game winning touchdown. But Toney, the player that scored the touchdown, was ruled offsides, resulting in a heartbreaking defeat for the Chiefs.

Almost immediately after the Chiefs anger subsided the excuses began, as some of the Chiefs staff cast blame on the referees.

Although many local fans agreed with the Chiefs, nationally many sneered at the Chief’s excuses and whining.

In Luke 19, in the parable of the talents, the final steward excused his poor performance by saying, “I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man.” His failure resulted in death.

Whether it’s sports or business, performance matters, excuses don’t.
