In 2009, the world fawned over Captain Sullenberger’s heroic plane landing in the Hudson River. Behind the scenes, however, the National Transportation Safety Board was building a case against him.
In the movie, “Sully,” Sullenberger’s case seemed hopeless as we watch the pilots in a computer simulation land safely, without landing in the Hudson River.
The tide turned, however, when Captain Sullenberger highlighted the human element. The simulation didn’t give any grace for the surprise factor or the time necessary to analyze the situation.
Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:2, “Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you.”
Leaders should remember that we have been given God’s grace to give to others when the human element doesn’t bring the results we prefer.
