The American Psychological Association recently surveyed workers to determine what causes the most work stress. 49% of these interviewees said that low salaries were their highest stress factor.
The perception of low wages can be due to employees living beyond their means. Their stress may need to be relieved with financial training.
Some employers, however, may be guilty of enhancing profits by paying below market wages, causing unnecessary stress on employees. If you have multiple employees who believe they are underpaid, consider 1 Timothy 5:18.
This verse says, “For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,’ and ‘The laborer is worthy of his wages.’”
Periodically review your salary structure compared to others in your industry to make sure you care properly for your staff.
