At 33 years of age, my wife and I began church shopping. The first few church sermons we heard were focused on giving, driving this tight-fisted banker away.
To me, my job was to make as much money as I could for my provision and pleasure. Why should I be generous?
Some people give to charity out of guilt, others out of fear, some for tax reasons, and some to be seen as generous. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed to know many generous people who give with gratitude and joy.
2 Corinthians 9:7 teaches, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
As we head into the year-end giving season ask yourself, “Why should I be generous?”
