Recently, the Wall Street Journal featured a story on Nehemiah Manufacturing in Cincinnati that has some interesting hiring practices. 80% of their employees have criminal records!
As I expected, the founders of this business are Christian men who wanted to rebuild a city more than a company. Within the inner city of Cincinnati, they are rebuilding the lives of people there who rarely have an opportunity to succeed.
In Nehemiah 2:17, Nehemiah had a similar rallying cry when he said, “You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a reproach.”
God’s call for us, like Nehemiah Manufacturing, is usually more important than just making money.
