At a staff meeting, we were discussing holiday time-off. I said, “Our landlord is taking an extra day off for the holidays. We can do that as well if you want. It doesn’t matter to me because I’ll probably work that day regardless.”
Later, one of my staff called me out on my foolish statement. I was told, “You made us feel bad about wanting extra time off with our family. It undermines our culture.”
She was right. Not being thoughtful before speaking sent the wrong message.
James 3:5 teaches, “Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”
Think before speaking. It may save you from burning down your culture.
