When someone feels compelled to tell you they are ethical, it’s likely they aren’t. Years ago, I met a business owner who kept telling me that he was a person of high integrity.
While touring his business, one of his employees stopped me to say, “Don’t believe anything he says. My boss is a crook and a liar.”
In Isaiah 58:3, God says, “Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’ “Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.”
God abhorred Israel’s hypocrisy. One reason Christians get a bad reputation is for boasting about their faith, but their actions don’t match their words. No one appreciates hypocrisy.
