As a young banker, I had lunch with a friend whom I hadn’t seen since college. He was an aggressive new entrepreneur building a prosperous business.
As we finished lunch he asked for my lunch receipt. When I asked why, he said, “I gather receipts to write off my taxes.” He laughed and said, “They never check whose receipt it is.”
April 15th tests the integrity of many business leaders. Aggressively looking for ways to minimize taxes often leads to deceit and fraud.
As followers of Jesus, we need to remember Romans 13:7 teaches, “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
Don’t let your pursuit of minimizing taxes lead to dishonoring God.
