When it comes to work it seems there are often two extremes. Either work is just a paycheck, or work is something that can become an idol.
Personally, I can lean towards letting work become an idol. I have to work at setting boundaries. For many of us work is a way to find self-worth, and that, unfortunately, can trump the needs of our family.
In Deuteronomy 27:15 Moses warned the Israelites, “Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Idols are not just statutes; they can be the work of our hands as well. Establish boundaries for your time and guard your heart carefully from secretly setting up your work as an idol.
