Even if you agree with the merits of doubling the minimum wage to $15 per hour, in my opinion, the timing of this mandate should be seriously considered. The industry that uses the most minimum wage labor is the leisure and hospitality industry.
The most devastated industry by the pandemic is also the leisure and hospitality industry. If we dramatically increase their payroll, even more businesses will fold.
Instead of receiving raises, many employees may find themselves in the unemployment line.
Luke 14:28 teaches, “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”
Although we should desire a fair wage for all, we need to consider the cost in its entirety.
