In 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that states could install legal online gambling. Since that time, legal sports gambling has grown from one state to 38 states, and from $440 million to over $13 billion in revenue.
With that much money involved, and the unsavory characters gambling attracts, the recent NBA gambling scandal shouldn’t be a big surprise.
The driver behind this incredible growth of sports betting and organized crime is greed.
Proverbs 28:25 teaches, “The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.”
Whether it is sports, the stock market, or a high growth industry, greed can become an addictive and harmful driver. If we pursue more of God instead of money, we will prosper without the harm that comes from greed.
