Sustainability is a hot topic in many nonprofit board rooms. A donation-only model doesn’t seem sustainable to many business leaders who serve on nonprofit boards.
It’s their nature to look for ways to help increase profits in the nonprofit world. But is that always God’s preference?
In Luke 10, Jesus commissioned 36 new “nonprofits” when he sent his 72 disciples out, two by two. Instead of developing a sustainability model, he gave them a scary charge.
He said, “Do not take a purse or bag or sandals.” He told them to find homes and, “Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.”
Jesus and His Holy Spirit was their sustainability model. What if he wants the same for the nonprofit you serve?
