As the new Chief Lending Officer of a community bank, I was charged with controlling the lending activities of the former CEO of the bank. Fred had made so many bad loans that he was required to report to me on any loans made.
One problem we encountered was that Fred would make loans to people who were already bankrupt. I required that he begin running credit bureaus on each loan request.
Fred decided to make a mockery of my rules by running the credit bureau and loaning the money regardless. Finally, we revoked his lending authority.
Proverbs 13:13 teaches, “Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded.”
If you report to someone, you don’t have to agree with their choices to respect their decision.
