After years of hard work, Paul’s manufacturing business had grown nicely. Then, one of Paul’s key executives decided to start a competing firm.
This former employee began building his business by offering Paul’s best employees huge pay increases to work for him. Paul was hurt that this former employee was building his new business by poaching Paul’s employees.
Years later, the payroll costs for Paul’s competitor became unsustainable. Paul purchased his former employee’s struggling company for “pennies on the dollar.”
Exodus 20:17 says, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
Sometimes, in the pursuit of craving what others have, people cross the line in how far they will go to pursue great employees.
