Desiring to serve God in his work, Darren often held back to be sure he wasn’t jumping ahead of God by taking actions God didn’t want taken. When Darren proudly described his restraint to his spiritual mentor, the mentor reminded Darren of the many times God used people to accomplish tasks, from Moses seeking his father-in-law’s assistance in the Book of Exodus to Jesus’ use of the man’s property for the Passover meal in Mark 14.
The mentor quoted Philippians 2:13: “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
We should seek God’s direction before we act. But we also need to recognize that we are among the tools God uses to accomplish his will.
