There was a time in my banking days when I struggled with workaholism. I was putting in long hours and constantly on my computer at home, rather than enjoying time with my family.
Looking back, I was trying to control my own destiny. I thought I had to push through my anxiety about the potential or desired results of my work by working even harder.
As I began to pray about my desire to be less consumed with work, I came across Psalm 127:2.
“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
For many months I carried that Bible verse in my briefcase, until I finally trusted God with the results.
