A friend of mine likes to say that we are all just one step away from stupid. For decades, King David had faithfully and humbly trusted God. But eventually, David’s pride opened the door for Satan to entice David to take a census.
God required that each person pay a ransom to God during a census as a reminder they were God’s people, not the kings. But David took the census to show how many subjects he had!
1 Chronicles 21:8 says, “Then David said to God, ‘I have sinned greatly by doing this. Now, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.’”
Yesterday’s faithfulness does not assure you will be faithful to God tomorrow. Diligently guard your heart against pride.
