With so many new laws running counter to the Christian faith, it’s becoming harder for many to set personal and corporate boundaries. Honoring God while honoring government officials can sometimes conflict.

In the story of Esther, Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, set boundaries and took some hard stands. Yet, he also knew when to honor the king.

As a Jew, Mordecai feared God and refused to worship anyone, including Haman, the king’s right-hand man, even at the risk of hanging.

Yet, Mordecai honored the king by helping overcome a plot to assassinate the king.

1 Peter 2:17 reminds us, “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”

When setting your boundaries, remember to fear God first, while doing your best to honor our government authorities.
