My first professional job was as a daily newspaper reporter. I got along with all my coworkers except the publisher’s assistant. Reporting to the top executive, she had (what I thought was) a condescending attitude to the lowly reporters, and to me, in particular.
On my last day, I sent flowers and a card to the newsroom, listing everyone – except the publisher’s assistant – by name.
My act was childish and counter to 1 John 4:7-8: “Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
Abiding in Christ means abiding in love, especially for those people who rub us the wrong way.
