Listen to the latest 60 second episode of Integrity Moments with Rick Boxx
After former police officer, Amber Guyger, was convicted for killing her neighbor, Judge Kemp, at Guyger’s request, gave Guyger a hug and, then, gave her a Bible. As a black judge, Tammy Kemp set the internet abuzz for hugging a white ex-cop, who had killed a black man.
I believe Judge Kemp understands that God desires justice for the victim, but also wants the guilty to experience repentance and restoration through acts of mercy. Kemp’s act of mercy, and her encouraging words to Guyger, will likely have an eternal impact.
James 2:13 teaches, “Judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
The goal of justice in the workplace is to provide justice to victims and mercy to the convicted.
