When I was in my 20s, I started a used car rental agency. But unfortunately, interest rates soared to 20% and unemployment to 13%.

About a year later, I asked a friend for his advice on my business. My friend looked at my business’ financial condition and kindly, but firmly, told me, “Rick, if you get out now you can still get out. If you wait six months, you’re likely in bankruptcy.”

It was hard, but I listened and decided to liquidate the business.

Proverbs 25:12 teaches, “Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear.”

If someone with a teachable spirit is asking for your advice, tell them what they need to hear, not what you think they want to hear.
