As a nonprofit leader who raises money, I have found that my motives are sometimes less than pure. There are occasions when I’m with wealthy business people who need counsel or prayer.
As someone who loves to help others, I’m quick to assist them. But at times, my mind drifts to thoughts of them writing the ministry a big check due to my help.
What’s worse is when I rationalize away my thoughts. It’s frightening how easily I can do the right thing, but for the wrong reasons.
Proverbs 16:2 teaches, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”
God knows our motives. When you have improper thoughts, stop and repent. Then consider what’s best for the other party, rather than for you.
