Jack had a problem. One of his top salesmen was stirring up trouble, again. This salesman was a know-it-all that was constantly being argumentative with the rest of the team.

Jack and I discussed possible solutions. But, when we discussed terminating his salesman if it didn’t get any better, Jack became anxious. “He’s my top salesperson. I don’t think I can afford to let him go.”

My response was, “Can you afford to keep him if he continues to negatively impact the rest of the team’s performance?”

Proverbs 26:21 teaches, “As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife.”

If you have a high performer causing trouble, try to help them improve. But if the strife continues, they likely need to go.
