Recently, someone asked Kathy, if she and I could sell Unconventional Business Network when we were ready to retire. One misunderstanding about nonprofits is how the ownership works.
Kathy and I do not own the assets of UBN. The ministry is publicly owned. Our pay is limited to whatever our independent board of directors approve. We cannot sell or liquidate and keep any money personally.
That’s why it’s easier for me to grasp the Biblical principle: God owns it all. I am just a steward of His ministry, rather than an owner.
Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.”
If you own a small business, are you running it as God’s steward or like an owner?
