A frustration I had working in large corporations was when I knew the solution to a situation, but was told, “that’s not how we do it.” I despised hearing, “That’s the way we’ve always done it.”

Occasionally, my superiors had good reasons, but frequently my unconventional methods would have proven more fruitful.

In Matthew 8, one of Jesus’ disciples wanted to adhere to the Jewish custom of burying his father before following Jesus. But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Jesus knew His unconventional path for this disciple of seeking and saving the lost would be much more fruitful than burying his spiritually dead father.

In business, we ought to be more interested in God’s unconventional path than our own fruitless customs.
