A challenging decision for any entrepreneur is knowing if, and when, to close a business. One consideration often overlooked is comparing your future opportunities to your current situation.

Tim started a technology business that wasn’t meeting original expectations. When Tim considered his talents, resources, and other business opportunities and contrasted them with his current business and its diminished prospects, he boldly closed the business.

In Matthew 4:21, John and James had a profitable fishing business when Jesus offered them an opportunity for eternal impact. We read, “Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”

John and James recognized that following Jesus was a better opportunity than continuing in their fishing business.

When debating whether to close a business, consider your opportunities as well.
