A recent survey by an insurance company called NEXT discovered that half of all businesses have experienced employee ghosting – when employees simply don’t show up for work – with 28% saying they experience it every few months or more.

Technology has made it easier to make employment more transactional rather than relational. Thanks to technology, employees have new job opportunities available to them virtually each day. Some accept a position, begin work, then never return.

Romans 13:7 teaches, “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

If you’re a new employee, consider what you owe your employer who invested time and money in hiring you. Respect and honor should guide your actions.
